Individual Counselling

Una has experience in supporting individuals managing anxiety, stress, depression, grief, separation, trauma and domestic violence.
Sessions are available in person, or via phone or teams, so support is available regardless of location.
Sessions are of 50 minute duration and held in the highest confidence.
Counselling sessions are client centred, strengths based and trauma informed. You will feel respected, seen and heard. Your life experiences and circumstances will be explored with compassion, sensitivity and at a pace you set.
Clients report that sessions have contributed to a greater understanding of themselves and how they relate to themselves and others. This has positively impacted their symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, including improvement in communication skills and relationships.

Couple and Family Counselling

Couples therapy can assist couples navigating poor or unhealthy communication, disconnection, betrayal and pre or post separation discussions. Therapy can enrich clients' understanding of their partner, increase healthy and respectful communication and deepen the couple's connection. For couples who have decided to separate, sessions can assist each person farewell the relationship with respect and healing, to reduce future tension or resentment.
Couples are seen for a separate individual session, prior to commencing sessions together.
In recognition that effective therapy requires both parties to feel comfortable with the therapist, Introductory rates are available for the initial individual sessions and initial joint session.
Family therapy is available for families that are caught in unhelpful and/or unhealthy patterns of interacting, with disconnection, discomfort or disrespect hallmarks of family communication. Therapy offers each family member a safe space to come together, with conversation facilitated to assist the family hear and understand one another, and shift towards healthier family dynamics.
After initial contact is made, family members that are participating attend appointments in unison.
Couple and Family session are 50 minute in duration.

Children Counselling

Recognising that children’s language is that of play, Water Under Counselling is fully equipped to assist children express themselves. Sessions are child directed, trauma and attachment informed. Parents and caregivers are supported to engage in sessions as appropriate.
Children’s counselling with Una can assist parents feel better equipped to manage and support children’s behaviours and emotional expression. Children’s counselling with Una can help children feel seen, heard and understood.
The initial session for children's counselling is booked with the parent or caregiver only, in order for a thorough history of the child to be provided. The child attends subsequent sessions thereafter. Parents/caregivers can participate in the session, or if this is not possible a waiting room adjoins the counselling space. Children cannot be left alone at the practice.
As a registered psychotherapist Una meets criteria to provide servicing to families with plan managed NDIS funding.
Session time can range from 40 to 50 minutes, depending on the child’s need and capacity.

Post Separation Support

Una has extensive training and experience as a Child Consultant (CC) in representing the voice of the child in post separation family mediation. In conjunction with a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP/Mediator) a CC can assist parents make meaningful care arrangements that accommodate the developmental, social and emotional needs of children when a family lives over separate households.
When both parents agree, and it is deemed appropriate, a CC meets with children individually, to gather a sense of the child's experience and needs in respect to their parents' relationship ending. With the child’s consent the CC provides feedback to the parents, ahead of their mediation session, in order that both parents have the same understanding of what their child's needs are currently, and into the future. Child Inclusive and Child focused mediation can be the most effective way to assist parents in emotional distress and conflict refocus on the children they share with their co parent.
Session times and location are tailored to the family’s need, fee’s are agreed in collaboration with the parents chosen FDRP.

Wellness Workshops and Events

Located in the quiet and picturesque rural town of Gingin, Water Under Counselling hosts half day wellness workshops, participants are invited to “A Place to Pause”. The events are designed to provide deep relaxation and holistic care to those who would like to avail of a nervous system reset, participants leave feeling reconnected and replenished within themselves. Group numbers are capped at 8 participants. These events are held bi monthly, they feature 3 different workshops that assist a person’s sense of wellness and include a light morning tea.
February 22nd -
Doors open at 9:45am for a 10:00 am start, with the day wrapping up at 2:00 pm. Sessions include Mindfulness, Yoga and Chakra Alignment through Sound Therapy. Participants will be invited to let go of the New Year, New You ideology, and rather ground and reconnect with their authentic self and strengths. Participants will leave with a renewed sense of relaxation and centredness, and practical techniques to assist them sustain this. Limited places available.
